I finally broke down and got an AO3 account for the purpose of tracking wth I'm reading over there. ...I probably just spammed a ton of people with "kudos". Whoops. I also discovered some Anna/Crowley that I hadn't read before, \o/

New icon specifically for AO3!

This is because when I tried to upload my default (you know, the orange glowing butterfly dust one), even though AO3 said it could take .gifs, it only took one of the frames. Without the movement in that icon, it just looks like a blob of not very artistically placed orange. Boo.

On the other hand...I do understand that moving icons aren't everyone's cup of tea. I would be much happier if they let us know that any moving icons were going to be borked, though.

Archive of Our Own is a wonderful/horrible thing. I'm severely internet awkward and can practically never form a constructive comment, but there, I can just click the kudos button. Which really helps no one.

Random comment is random, but as a writer I adore getting email notifications of kudos from AO3!

Darlin', I don't know anyone who is so very special and loved that getting a kudos wouldn't make them happy. You're not spamming, you're spreading little bits of glee! :D

They're slightly different, yeah, but actually I don't see kudos as variant in meaning. I usually take it to mean "I liked this, thanks for writing," which, honestly, is pretty much the content of most of the comments that I leave and receive. And, if you take kudos + comments as a unit, the institution of kudos has resulted in an uptick of fb on my things at AO3, which is pretty awesome. So, I honestly don't think of them as "less than" a comment or resent getting them instead of a comment, and most of the people I've read around seem to feel the same way.
